Bikram Yoga risks

There are many Bikram Yoga risks that need to be kept in mind before you start practicing Bikram Yoga. Each one of Bikram Yoga poses should be approached with extreme caution and only done after consultation with a certified physician. Some of the Bikram Yoga risks are heat exhaustion, heat stroke, dehydration and injuries that can be incurred due to fainting.

Anyone who practices Bikram Yoga is at an increased risk of ligament, lower back and muscle injuries. Also there can be tissue damage from Bikram Yoga poses as the muscles, tendons and ligaments are much more flexible when they are heated than when they are cold therefore increasing the risk of being stretched much more than a safe limit.
One of the major Bikram Yoga risks is over sweating. Although this has its benefits in the form of releasing minor amounts of harmful toxins, it can also many times be counterproductive. The main organs that are responsible for the release of harmful toxins are the liver and kidneys. When someone who is practicing Bikram Yoga poses does not hydrate himself sufficiently enough, then the effectiveness of these organs are reduce great deal. This results in releasing very low amount of toxins. As a professor of dermatology at St. Louis University found out that over sweating does not release a lot of toxins particularly metals which are excreted through feces or urine.

Due to the vigorous nature of the Bikram Yoga poses and the high level of temperature that goes with it, there are many groups of people who need serious consultation with a doctor before they can proceed with Bikram Yoga. These include people with Asthma, High Blood Pressure, Pregnancy (specifically women who are novice in Yoga), Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema and Back Problems, Therefore it is important that before you start with Bikram Yoga, make sure you know all the Bikram Yoga risks.
