With all the recent studies about young girls and their body images, it’s understandable why parents would worry. One study showed that as many as 13% of girls own up to having eating disorders, and that a whopping 25% think that they need plastic surgery, and would go through with it if they had the means. It’s terrible that we live in a time when so many young women hate themselves and their bodies so much that they would try such desperate means to lose weight. No one can make anyone else accept the way they are, and if girls are going to force themselves to lose weight in order to keep up with unhealthy and unrealistic ideas of beauty, they might as well do it in a way that will be healthy.

Curb Anxiety with Sitali Pranayama

As must of us know, many animals must pant in order to keep cool. This works because the act of panting dramatically ups the amount of saliva in the mouth as the tongue is being stretched. The air doubly collects moisture from the surrounding area and ends up being ‘swamp cooled’ when it passes through your mouth’s ‘wetland’. This means that your blood is cooled before it even reaches your brain! It’s not surprising that this technique is named as such. “Sitali” means “cool”. The Sitali Pranayama is a yogic breathing technique that greatly reduces the principle we refer to as “pitta”. (Which is simply the body’s catabolic process).

If you’re just starting out, a headstand (A.K.A. Sirsasana Pose) may look pretty intimidating, but once you get it down, it’s actually pretty easy. Anyone can learn it in only a couple of weeks. Now any pose that requires you be upside down can feel pretty awkward, and even downright scary. Don’t worry – once you’re used to it, it’s very fun. It is not uncommon for long-time students to hold the sirsasana position for as long as five minutes. Why, I believe that the world record for ’standing’ on ones head is something near 3 hours!

Karma Yoga Techniques and Benefits

I was so excited when I heard of this “karma yoga” thing. I signed up for a retreat in the south-west of France expecting to get do a little stretching and meditation. When I first heard about this intriguing retreat, all I knew was that it would cost me only €10 a day and that it seemed like a lot of fun. My journey began when I was dropped off at the medieval church perched in the hill-endowed village of Marsolan, which was as deserted and void of living souls as a cemetery.
