And yogic breathing or pranayama shows us the way to improve our breathing. Pranayama is best practiced early in the morning, even before sunrise when the mind and body are free from distractions or sometime after sunset. To get the best results, one should practice yogic breathing on an empty stomach. One should sit with his back erect, the spine perpendicular to the floor. A bad posture will lead to shallow breathing with undesirable results.</p>
<p>A few exercises to improve our breathing are a) The Kapalabhati Pranayama :  Sit in a comfortable position. Inhale deeply and exhale forcefully. Draw your belly in as you breathe out. Inhale passively and let your belly go back to the normal position. Exhale forcefully again. Repeat this cycle 20-30 times. B) Anuloma &amp; Viloma Pranayama : This is alternate breathing when you breathe in through one nostril and exhale through the other. This helps in cleansing the nasal passage and calming the mind. c) Shitali Pranayama : Sit in a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths. Now, form your mouth into an ‘o’ and inhale through your mouth. Exhale through your nose. Repeat this 10-15 times.</p>
<p>Some other exercises to improve our breathing are the Nadi Shodhana, Ujjayi Pranayama, Bhastrika Pranayama, Bahya Pranayama and Agnisaar Kriya. Improving our breathing through Pranayama helps to develop a steady mind, great will-power and sound judgment. It helps to lessen the respiratory tract problems. In the long run it helps one to live a longer and healthier life.</p>
