Killer Beginner Yoga Poses
Quite a few people undermine the power of beginner yoga positions. I know I used to! It doesn’t matter where you stand when it comes to yoga; the benefits are the same, and the benefits are great. Beginner poses can always be modified into something more difficult if you desire as much. The key to these poses is to figure out what benefit each position has for you, to your own body. If you’re a little farther along in yoga, re-practicing the basics can help to re-root you.
I know I oftentimes moved through the basics as if they were some boring and unimportant part of my routine, but I found that by reconnecting with the basics, I became more mindful of how I stood when I preformed yoga, how my feet touched the floor. By continually practicing the beginner positions, I feel like I’ve improved my daily routine tenfold. Because of this, I think it’s vastly important that others get a firm grasp of beginner basics.
It’s easy to assume that such positions as the mountain pose have no benefits whatsoever. (‘Why are you just standing there’)? What some people don’t realize is that by forcing your feet against the ground and focusing on lifting your spine, you are actually improving your posture and giving strength to your ankles. When you open your shoulders, you not only relieve a lot of negative stress, but you open your chest up, freeing your breath. With tweaks here and there, you tighten your quadriceps and strengthen your abdominals and upper leg muscles. Some other pretty beneficial beginner poses include child pose, cat pose, spinal twist, and forward bend.
I recommend practicing forward bend, which supplies your brain with a clean dose of oxygenated blood, along with twists, side stretches, and back bends to keep your spine lubricated. By bending your spine in different directions, you help to improve flexibility and durability. Also, always be aware when you’re going through your poses and breathing. The deep connection between your body and mind will help you with many things such as stress and pain relief.
One of the things I love so much about yoga is the fact that you can do it as much as you want. Whether you want to practice yoga everyday or once a week, it’s cool. I recommend trying to get in at least 15 minutes everyday, though. It’s how you keep your mind and body feeling good and healthy! Whether you’re a beginner or an old hat, practice some beginner positions today. Pay close attention to your body and yourself. You deserve it.
