Science of Pranayama Explained

The Bumble Bee Pranayama, goes also by the name of the Snoring Pranayama and Bhramari, uses the vibrations and sound of the humming bee in order to induce a deep relaxation to your mind – quite similar to the deep realm of sleep. Bhramari pranayama isn’t a beginner technique; it comes in a bit later when practicing the techniques of breathing regulation.

In the breathing regulation techniques, the Brahmari is supposed to help one remove all of ones negative and unwanted thoughts and feelings that could potentially lead in an unbalanced, unharmonious mentality. Having ones mind stabalized is the ultimate sign of great health. The Bhramari Pranayama is also commonly known as a snoring technique or pranayama, due to the belief that when one is in a deep sleep, ones mind is carefree and stress-less, and reintroduced to true innocence.

The sentiment is that a person is so carefree and relaxed that they snore.
This Brahmari technique is very similar to the snoring that is induced when a person is deep in relaxation or asleep. The sound is very similar to that of a bumble bee. These sounds are supposed to send out positive vibrations. While there are some variations, the most widely accepted way of doing this technique is as follows. Bring your soft palate of the oral opening as close as possible to your throat and mimic the sound of a bumble bee my humming. It is said that these vibrations are supposed to have a lot of positive authority on a person’s mind and even the physical brain.

If you can master this Brahmari technique, the effects can be phenomenal. Most of the more sought after effects (after quite a bit of practice, of course), are ease of mind, more focused concentration, fewer headaches and migraines, and les fickleness. If you’d like to take it even further, with more practice, you can even go into a deep state of meditation.

But remember, these sorts of things cannot just be jumped into. Not only is the Brahmari Pranayama a more advanced breathing technique, any sort of yoga pose and breathing technique should be supervised under a certified instructor only after clearance from you doctor. These things should not be taken lightly, and your doctor’s advice and teacher’s instructions should always be followed in regards to yoga!
