Study Indicates that Yoga Decreases Back Pain
The latest BUSM and BMC study indicates that yoga decreases back pain. The study suggests that yoga poses may be more efficient when treating back pain than other, more standard methods. This may be quite surprising to some people – either those who are unfamiliar with yoga, or those who are skeptical of anything that doesn’t require loads of medicines. This is not meant in a sarcastic way – I used to be very skeptical of yoga myself, before I started practicing it. I suffered from quite a bit of back pain before finally turning to the miraculous power of yoga healing.
Researchers studied the effects of yoga healing therapy compared with the typical treatments provided at, by, and from doctor offices as well as medications on a group of low-income, racial-diverse adults that had persistent back pains. They found that those who did at least seventy-five minutes of yoga poses on a weekly basis over the course of twelve weeks showed a thirty percent decrease in back pain, compared with a small five percent decrease in those being treated with traditional care.
In fact, those using yoga healing reported vastly improved function, as well as an eighty percent decrease in the amount of medication used to control their pain. Yoga back pain poses can really help those who suffer from chronic muscle aches in their backs.
The study may be very helpful for minorities, especially. Many studies show that low-income minorities with less education are significantly less likely to try out yoga. The study should be helpful because it will hopefully help to spread around the yoga back pain poses to those who might otherwise not know about them.
Of course, if yoga just really isn’t your thing at all, you can always try massages, chiropractors, or acupuncture. For me, I chose to try out the yoga because chiropractors are expensive and I can’t stand the thought of even just one needle in my body. I have to say that yoga worked almost immediately for me, and has continued to work for years. I have never regretted my decision to try it out!
