Kriya is a type of yoga meant to rid oneself of obstacles when it comes to the mind and body. This is done through meditation, breathing techniques, poses, and mantras. All of this is done in order to attain full pure self-awareness. Self-awareness is something that, sadly, many people ignore or do not have at all.

Please remember that this is just a quick introduction. If you want to pursue the art of yoga, you must first consult with your physician, then a certified yoga instructor. Yoga is a peaceful, easy, wonderful way to tone your body, calm your mind, and harmonize your soul, but it can go very badly if you do not do the poses perfectly.

And there is more than meets the eye. You must first get approval from your doctor, then seek out a certified instructor that will teach you the correct way to perform poses. This is a must! If you don’t do this, it can be dangerous!

First you must prepare the body. Hatha yoga is good for this. A fifteen minute warm-up or light/easy exercise will promote good health and allow you to gain some control over certain body functions. Next, you must prepare your mind. For this, try some Kriya yoga. This focuses more on purging and purifying the mind. Remember that you must practice mantras that will help you learn to meditate.

You’ll need a regime like Radja Yoga to focus life force to your brain and the attached nervous system. This will keep your spine healthy. Next you will need to send energy up your spine in a way that will change the way you think and even the way you function. Mudras will help you gain much more control over your flow of energy.

If you’d like a more challenging regime, try adding some higher kriyas, though these are not necessary for full self awareness.

You may be curious about what exactly Prana (or life force) is. It is simply the energy that comes with Awareness. Energy and Awareness are like the 2 sides of 1 coin, just like anything else in the universe. Energy is what always has been, and Awareness is what we are. We must balance the positive and negative aspects of our life to achieve full awareness and harmony.

As most practitioners know, yoga is a very complex system of formulated therapies from the East that have spread far and wide all over the world. Even though yoga has many branches, the “exercise” part of yoga is called “yogasana” and is wildly popular in the west. People who practice yoga swear by the physical, spiritual, and psychological benefits of it.

The popularity of this type of yoga has greatly grown since scientific and medical evidence has come about, supporting the practitioners’ praise. Some can say that any exercise can make you healthy, and they could be right, but no other similar type of exercise can give people such overwhelming spiritual benefits.

There are some people who might be turned off by the phrase “spiritual benefits” because they automatically think of god or religion. But yoga does not merely deal with god, it deals with our souls and inner consciousness.

There’s no denying that yoga used to be related to religion, as most of its practitioners were sanyasis (which are the Hindu’s mendicants). It was never purely about religion, however. It had a very wide reach and was simply thought of as a way to achieve inner consciousness. It is a way to achieve the body’s maximum energy.

Yoga is simply using techniques to achieve utter and complete peace. It is believed that through yoga, you can free yourself from evils and sins, as well as everyday mistrials. Even if you are not a religious person, you can still enjoy the benefits of concentration, clear breathing, worry-free mind, and countless health benefits. Even if all yoga is to you is a pre-job workout, you will still benefit greatly from it. Your body and mind will benefit greatly, whether you want to be more flexible in your mind or body, both will be achieved.

Understanding yourself will give you better control of yourself. But always remember to first contact your doctor and a trained licensed yoga instructor. If you don’t have permission from your doctor, do not attempt yoga. And if you cannot find a yoga instructor – KEEP LOOKING. While yoga can do wonders for your health, it can also be devastating if you do it incorrectly.
