Yoga for Beginners: Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a rather new form of Yoga popularised in the West by Yoga Bhajan in the late 60’s in his Healthy, Happy and Holy Foundation. Kundalini was earlier looked upon as something mystical and powerful and it was only due to the persistent efforts of Yogi Bhajan was this brought out to the mainstream public over the past coupled of decades.

Kundalini Yoga is performed to tap the untapped energy at the base of the Spinal chord called Kundalini Energy. The base target of every Kundalini Yoga exercise would to slowly life up tthe energy from the base of the spine to the crown of the head .This is said to be the peack position of the yoga form. Kundalini Yoga is represented as a coiled Snake at the base of spinal chord indicating its speed, power and potential to make or break lives.
Every Kundalini exercise focuses on one thing i.e putting stress on the lower body and relaxing the upper body so that there is a free transfer of Kundalini Energy upwards. As with most Yoga exercises, there are Pranayama techniques used for this and Kundalini poses may also require you to perform certain poses while doing your Yoga workout.

Kundalini Yoga is for those who have already completed a basic level of Yoga training and can be ready for both mental and physical strain. Due to other requirements such as breathing control, meditation and even diet control, Kundalini Yoga demands Mental toughness and while its effects are profound, it is suggested that beginners start up basic Pranayama techniques to get acquainted with the magical world of Pranayama Yoga before going in for Kundalini Yoga poses.
